Course Overview / Details

The Vehicle Maintenance, Service, and Repair course is designed for students choosing the automotive industry as a career.  It provides pre-employment training to students and teaches the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities for entry-level employment in the automotive service industry. Upon completion, students will have sufficient background to repair and make adjustments on the various systems of the modern automobile, using up-to-date equipment and tools.

  • The lessons in this unit include identifying common automotive hand tools, how to properly and safely use the tools, and how to select the proper tool for a given job. It will also cove the proper care, maintenance, and storage of the tools. This unit will contain lessons that cover power tools and hand tools and the advantages and disadvantages of certain tools. All lessons will include safety and safety procedures for tool utilization.

    bore, stroke, displacement, and number of cylinders. being able to explain engine compression ratio and how it affects engine performance, explain engine torque and horsepower ratings,  describe the different methods used to measure and rate engine performance, and explain volumetric efficiency, thermal efficiency, mechanical efficiency, and total engine. All lessons include safe work practices.

  • The lessons in this unit include the fundamentals of both drum and disc brake systems, inspection and measuring the brake system which includes mechanical and the hydraulic portion of the brake system. Also contains servicing of the brake systems, utilization of brake measuring tools and using basic mathematics to determine if parts can be reused or need to be replaced.

  • The lessons in this unit include identifying the major parts of a suspension system, describing the basic function of each suspension system component, explaining the operation of the four common types of springs, comparing the various types of suspension systems. Tire size and dimensions, steering angles including camber, caster, toe, toe-in & toe-out on turns, and SAI will be included.
