Students will investigate the benefits to being in an organization, specifically the FFA.

This lesson REQUIRES TIME AND PLANNING BY THE AG TEACHER AHEAD OF TIME. DO NOT PULL THIS LESSON OUT AT THE LAST MINUTE. As getting students to buy in to FFA is very important, the time put into the planning for this lesson will pay great dividends for your program and members. Please read BUILDING OUR LIST to make sure you have the necessary items set up ahead of time.

Students will explore what the FFA is and investigate the history of the organization. (Primarily designed for 9th grade or first year FFA members, though could be used as a review for older members). (Lesson 2 of 4)

This lesson is for less traditional or older ag students. Still explores the FFA and its basic history, but is student guided learning. Requires teacher to provide resources or the use of a computer lab for research. (Lesson 3 of 4)

Students will apply the knowledge they have learned in this unit to develop a personalized FFA plan for success "myPLAN". (Lesson 4)

The instructor will need a list of local, chapter, and community service activities that their chapter participates in. Instructor should also be prepared to share examples of these activities as well as dates. A chapter calendar would be beneficial here as well.

Students will develop a working knowledge of the fundamentals of leadership- what it is, the qualities of leaders and some leaders in their own lives.

Students will indentify their style of leadership and how they can use it to influence their communities.

Effective leaders must be able to communicate their ideas and thoughts to larger groups. This gets your class started with a practical exercise in public speaking.
