Photosynthesis Hieroglyphics

Part of Lesson Plan: It's Not Easy Being Green!

Activity Overview / Details

Students are asked to take out a sheet of paper and create a hieroglyphics-type representation of the photosynthesis equation. (Refer to attached sheet with detailed information on the "Hieroglyphics Moment".) Basically, students have to re-create the equation using pictures instead of words and/or chemical symbols (i.e. students will often show a water drop, water bottle or faucet to represent water). Students are only given 5 minutes to create their hieroglyphics representation. Then, they share their creation with a partner. Afterwards, I ask for a few volunteers to share with the entire class. This activity is quick, fun for the kids and helps motivates those students who like to think in graphics and use their creativity.
