Activities in this Lesson
- How do you know you when you have arrived - Hooks / Set
Start the class out with a movie clip of "Over The Hedge" (The part is when the Exterminators van is taken over by the squirrels and crashed into the womens house and the GPS is telling them they have arrived). After the clip start by asking the students If they have ever gone to an amusement park? What is the first thing you do after you get your admissions ticket and proceed into the inside. Find a locker to put your stuff in for the day or maybe find that much needed restroom because you've been stuck on the road for a couple of hours, or even find that new ride that your friends talked about. Ask the students how they would go about finding out this information? The answer that your looking for is a Park map/directory
- Amusement Park Directory - Group Work
Note for this activity you will need to have approximately 10 examples of Amusement Park Directories. Have students break into groups and give them a list of items to find using the directory. Have them highlight their route and prioritize their stops. Have each group present what they decided was priority and how it played into their selection. Know it is time to relate this to what you are going to be covering in the lesson.
- How to use your Repair Manual - Lecture
Just like that amusement park map/directory the book is set-up to assist you in finding out what you need to know about the engine that you are repairing, tearing down, putting back together, or troubleshooting. It is broken down into the basic areas of the engine i.e. General Information, Ignition, Carburetion, Governor Controls and Governors, Compression, Starters, Alternators, Lubrication, Engine Disassembly, Cylinders and Bearings, Crankshaft and Camshaft, Pistons Rings and Rods, Engine Assembly, Mufflers, Tools
