Transition #1 from video to reading material

Part of Lesson Plan: Golden Rice -- the Use of Biotechnology (Chris Dickson)

Activity Overview / Details

The instructor will ask students who drink 'energy drinks' to stand. At that point the instructor will ask any student who remained seated why they don't drink 'energy drinks.' (Responses may range from 'too expensive' to 'unsafe for the body).' To the students standing the instructor will ask if they think there is any risk to drinking an 'energy drink.' Responses may range from 'no' to 'I don't think so.' The instructor will then tell the students to be seated and will refer back to the video 'Hope for the Future' that was just played. The instructor will begin the transition by stating that "in most parts of the world the question of to drink or not to drink an energy drink is of no value. Most people in the world are concerned about surviving from one day to the next. During the next 17 minutes you will take the position of being completely responsible for the welfare of the rest of the world. To do so, you will gather as much information as possible to help you meet the challenge of feeding the rest of the world. After 17 minutes we will break and discuss your findings before tackling another segment of the challenge, which is to help all people be able to lead healthy productive lives."
