Part of Lesson Plan: Autonomous Service Robots by Michael May
Activity Overview / Details
This lesson begins with a 2 minute video showing a service robot taking a drink order from a customer, and then finding the requested beverage on a countertop and serving the customer his drink. The robot movements captured in the video, along with the programming required to make the robot accomplish the task look extremely complicated (video attached).
Following the video of the professionally built service robot I show a short video that was made in my classroom by a team of students from a prior year class who solved the problem of designing, building, and programming a robot to serve their teacher a beverage. I believe that seeing how other students successfully solved this design challenge helps to motivate my current students to conquer this challenge (video attached). The video my students made is worth watching if you are interested in high school robotics projects.
