Where do babies come from?
Part of Lesson Plan: Cell Division: Meiosis
Activity Overview / Details
Musical meiosis is a great ice breaking activity that will beg the question, "Why are we doing this?" Babies? Love? What's the deal? On the board, write the sentence, "Where do babies come from?" This will catch any high school students attention. Tell your class that the waiting is over and today they will finally learn where babies come from! Most of them will avoid eye contact and some will look disgusted, while others grin. Begin with, "We'll you see when two gametes meet, they just can't resist forming a zygote together." Faces will go blank, they will have no idea what you are talking about. It's funny. Tell the students, "Maybe we should back up just a bit."
