Conflict is caused by many factors in someone's personal life and in the workplace. There are four types or forms of conflict. Conflict can be created by:
Simple conflict - Disagreement over a fact.
Ego conflict - A conflict in which the individuals view "winning" or "losing" as a measure of their expertise and personal worth.
Values and beliefs conflict - Conflict that arises when people differ in their thought about life in general or as an aspect of life, and these differences are brought into focus on a particular issue.
False conflict - A situation in which a person thinks a conflict exists, but in reality it does not.
Explain to students that conflict has four phases. Describe the four phases of conflict:
Phase I - taking sides
Phase II - keeping score
Phase III - showdown
