Activity Overview / Details

1. Define the terms etiquette and empathy.  Ask students to pair share their ideas on why having proper phone etiquette and empathy for patients are important characteristics for medical profesionals.

2.  Discuss proper technique for answering the phone and describe the process of screening patients, transferring calls and ending a call pleasantly and profesionally.

3.  Have students share good and bad telephone experiences.
