Activity Overview / Details

A written test will be given asking

  • Give 2 examples of PHI  (ans: name, date of birth etc...)
  • Define "TPO" (ans: treatment, payment, operations)
  • In the following scenarios state Yes or No if a patient should sign a release of information (ROI) or not: ( remember this release would be in addition to the "Notice of Privacy" that the pt. signed when first coming to the office which released everything to do with TPO.)
  •   A husband comes in to see his wife's pregnancy test results without her present.  Should the patient sign a release? _________ (Ans. yes)
  • A mother wants to see her 19 year old son's drug results without him present. Should the patient sign a release? _________(Ans. yes)
  • A man wants his records sent to a new doctor because he is moving. Should the patient sign a release? _________(Ans. yes)
  • A man is sent to another room for X-rays. should the patient  sign a release? _________(Ans. no because it is part of "treatment")
  • A medical assistant files the patient records in the patient's chart. Should the patent sign a release? _________(Ans. no because it is part of "operations")
  • A billing clerk bills for the office visit. Should the patient sign a release? _________(Ans. no because he already signed for release of all Treatment, Payment and Operations, or TPO, when he signed the Notice of Privacy when he first arrived in the office, and this is part of  "payment")
