Secondary Survey = “ EVALUATION
After establishing the patient has no life threatening injuries, the Athletic Trainer will shift gears and start the Secondary survey. This is the part of the evaluation that focuses on what the injury is and what it will take to rehabilitate the injury.
There are 3 different formats for a Secondary Survey:
1. H.I.P.S.= History, Inspection, Palpation/Physical Exam, Special Tests, which will be focus of today's lesson.

2. H.O.P.S.= History, Observation, Palpation/Physical Exam, Special Tests
3. S.O.A.P.= Subjective information, Objective Information, Assessment, Plan is used to assist in documentation of injuries, daily treatments, weekly / Bi-weekly summaries PRN(as needed)
* We will focus on the HIPS Format for assessing injuries
** We will discuss S.O.A.P. notes in a later section.
