How much does a dead calf cost?
Part of Lesson Plan: Calving Problems/Dystocia
Activity Overview / Details
Have the power point keyed up and show the class the first
slide. Ask for feedback. Most students don't understand that the
calf is worth very little, but the cost put into the cow for 9
months cost a lot. Then show the 2nd slide of what a live calf is
worth at weaning time after the same cow costs.
It is the producers choice which they would rather have, but
they have to catch it by knowing calving dates, normal stages of
labor and identification of problems.
