Part of Lesson Plan: Deal-breakers- the employee on a personal mission
Activity Overview / Details
The teacher begins discussion by stating, “Everyone got a product, is everyone’s the same?” Wait and engage in choral responses. “But they are all pencils, and how do you know that that wasn’t the best that that I could build? Judging by me, my company’s perception was that this was ok.” The teacher then begins background about the definition of QUALITY, then the definition of QUANTITY.
The teacher then talks about deadlines and expectations; how there was a limited amount of resources and time to get them all made. This allows students to see how it doesn’t matter if the students are in school, home or the workplace, these deadlines and expectations will be the same everywhere. The teacher should reference how teachers grade, and different standards teachers have on the same product (schoolwork).
The teacher will pass out the QUANTITY vs. QUALITY handout to each student and have them get out a highlighter. As the teacher reviews the handout and explains each section, students are to highlight unfamiliar vocabulary for future discussions. The teacher should encourage hand-raising for students who want to participate in this discussion, and not letting the students change the INTENT, by adding personal stories (we all have them, think your last order at McDonalds’..).
