Activity Overview / Details
Distrubute the Bioinformatics - primer design student handout.
Pair students up. One student is the "pilot" or the person on
the computer. The other student is the "navigator" or helping the
pilot manage through the site, looking ahead, trouble shooting,
recording information, etc.
To start the Primer Design activity, walk students through
the first example from the Bioinformatics handout. Follow each step
and perform what they will be doing with the NM_000330 or
retinoschisis disease. Fill out table 2 with them as you progress
through the steps. Know that students will get confused with the
reverse primer details. Spend extra time explaining how to make a
primer that is the reverse compliment to the base pair
sequence.
