Activity Overview / Details

If students find that this area is of high interest to them, they usually select it as their semester project in my classes. Give students a few options including; creating a children's book, creating a short animation (using Flash), creating a public service announcement/poster regarding the importance of antibodies, or a music video about antibodies. 

Students must submit their proposals for the project, a timeline for project components, and a detailed list of each person's responsibilities to the project. 

The ability to take complex technical information and rephrase and reformat it into something that is comprehended by the general public is a valuable skill in health care and biotechnology. That point is driven home by a quick informal poll as to how many of my students' parents are able to understand what their doctors tell them. Review how relating information is tied directly to public acceptance of biotechnical advances (vs. the fear factor) and good bedside manner.
