Name that shape!

Part of Lesson Plan: Building Blocks - Metal for Welding and Machining

Activity Overview / Details

When the student enters the classroom each will get a Metal Shapes Pre-test from a pre-arranged location by the front door.  I like to use a shelf that has their safety/assignment notebooks in one location on the shelf and a box where I place the quizzes, tests, or handouts  for my daily hook/set.

The students will work quietly by themselves while I take roll and prepare for the lecture. When they have completed all they can do, they will place their pre-test face down on the desk so I may see who needs more time.

Most of these shapes are the very basic ones they will see during their lab days in my class.

Once most of the class has completed the task I will have the students exchange papers one person to their left and we will correct the test, placing the number right at the top. I do a show of hands on how many people got all the shapes correct. This gives me feedback for my short lecture.
