Activity Overview / Details

Using their completed drawings, students will now wear eye protection and move into the lab to cut out the the specified cut size from a given piece of sheet metal on the stomp shear, which they have used previously in another lesson. They are instructed to save their left over piece. They will layout the sheet metal using their drawing specifications. I will remind students to double check their measurements before any cutting takes place. Students will then observe the cutting sequence that will take place, with common errors being reviewed and discussed. I will check the sheet metal cuts before moving on to the bending sequence, which is reviewed as to why a certain sequence is necessary. Students will bend their box in the appropriate sequence using a bar folder and box/pan brake, which they have had previous instruction on, while I monitor their progress. They complete the project by closing seams and removing any sharp edges.
