This is the culminating lesson for this unit.  Students will have already learned to take and record vital signs, heights, weights, visions and audiometric exams. 

I have the students invite their parents to school for the class period (you can have them make formal invitations as an activity where they can practice business writing skills).  If time allows I arrange for the use of the multipurpose room and the parents bring food (breakfast or lunch) to share with their child during a introductory or debriefing activity.  Food is a great motivator to get parents and students together.

Prior to the event I have the students design the set up of the room taking into consideration traffic patterns and accessibility for individuals with disabilities.  This gives the student practice with time management skills and improves their awareness of safety issues.  I also have them create a check list of all items that need to be available for use.  (Ask for volunteers to do a mock run through of the examination to ensure all equipment is accounted for).
