Activity Overview / Details
Tell the students that scientists and inventors started out like them, high school students in the classroom. Explain to them that they will practice keeping an organized record of their work through a legal scientific notebook. Discuss the steps in setting up a legal scientific notebook. You may assign them to bring a 200-page composition notebook or you may provide them with the notebooks. Guide them step-by-step using the laboratory activity entitled "How to Set Up a Legal Scientific Notebook" by Ellyn Daugherty. As you read each step, let them set up their notebook. Afterwards, they could use their notebooks starting on page 6 for the first lab activity.
