Upon the start of class the teacher introduces a problem to the students. He describes a string of Christmas lights that although beautiful, burns out any time any one of the bulbs goes out. The teacher then invites the students to experiment and find if there isn’t a better way.

To attempt to solve this problem, each table of students is given a box containing wires, a multi-meter, various resistors, LED’s and batteries. Students are given the challenge of creating a better string of Christmas light.

 Note: Students should have at least an introductory level of knowledge prior to this lesson on using a multi-meter, including how to hook it up for measuring current vs. measuring voltage.
