- Attached Lesson Materials - Lecture
Go over the fit up chart, explain the basic welds 1st. ie 1F beads, 1F butt weld, 1F lap weld, 1 F Tee or Fillet weld, if this is an intro class. Describe and tell where the other welds fit into the next level of welding classes. After lecture, take the students into the lab, put a # 10 shade helment on all of them, and do a demo of the welds in which you chose to lecture on. Then comes lab practice for the students. After sufficient lab time and guidance, assessment will follow.

Assessment: I use a scale of 1 to 10 for assessment. I grade on Bead width, height, straightness, penetration of weld, after weld cleaning, and overall appearance, based on AWS, (American Welding Society) standards. Online or AWS.com. This assessment can be used as well for the teacher made test. This type of assessment works for all welding processes.
