Explaining this activity should take 10 minutes during class. The whole process of this part of the lesson should be started 30 days before taking notes. Students need time to gather data for their own spending log, expense report, and Excel Budget.
Create a spending log with students in Word, Excel or on paper. Explain to students that they will keep track of all the money they receive and spend during the month.
Create an expense report from the spending log
with students in Word, Excel, or on paper. At the end of
every week for one month, students need to organize their
spending log into an expense report. They need to group
like items within each day.
Create a budget from expense report with
students in Excel or on paper. After students have created
their expense report, they need to enter their values into an
Excel weekly budget.
At the end of the month, students will take their weekly budgets in Excel to one monthly budget.
