Principles of organizational goal setting
Goal setting is a cyclical, not linear, process. Goals are set, evaluated, modified, and re-deployed as frequently as market conditions or business needs demand.
Goal setting occurs initially as part of the strategic planning process. The process generally begins with the establishment of organizational vision / mission statements, and produces The outputs of this process are organizational objectives.
Business unit management is then responsible for certain goals related to their unit’s function. These goals then become the basis for employee jobs assignments and performance management.
As we learned at the beginning of the class, how well the goals are written, defined, and managed then becomes the basis for organizational success.
What make makes for quality goals? Reference list on the board, and reinforce or supplement to complete these guidelines:
Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time Framed. [1]
Aligning all employee goals to: organizational, departmental, work unit, and personal goals.
