Part of Lesson Plan: Advertisement/Creating a Print Ad (1 of 2) Intro

Activity Overview / Details

(On this day teacher should try to wear logo and/or name brand clothing)

Have powerpoint presentation on slide 1 while students walk in to class:

Slide 1: Pictures including ads-After allowing students a couple minutes to investigate the images, go picture by picture talking about what is being advertised in each one. Ask students how they knew what the product was?

Say: “When we wear clothing or shoes with logos we are walking advertisements for companies.” Use the example of famous athletes and their sponsors. “Athletes are paid to wear clothing from the brands they represent.” Next point out the clothing that you are wearing and point out how like an athlete you are also a walking advertisement. (hopefully your students will think this comparison is funny)

Teacher: “ Okay, who watches TV?” “Keep your hand raised if you ever watch the commercials? What are some of the memorable commercials you have seen lately?” (Allow student to respond and discuss some of the exciting commercials with your students.) Teacher: “Are the memorable commercials that you see the ones that are describing the actual product or doing something funny, exciting, or creative?”(Discuss this with students).

Slide #2: Evian Roller Babies- show commercial-  "Do you guys like this commercial?" Why or why not?" discuss what made it good bad. "What was the commercial saying to the consumers? Does the product actually do this?" Discuss...
