Activity Overview / Details

Set up for teacher - Before the students arrive, save the Visual Symbol Intro in Quicktime  on a computer with a projector. Turn on Visual Symbol Intro a few minutes before students are expected to arrive. It should loop through 10 slides, repeating while students come in and sit down.
Also ...Print the 10 Quicktime slides and post each on a wall or white board with tape or magnets or pins.
For students
Have students watch Visual Symbol Intro without talking to each other and response to each of the ten slides. These directions are in the Visual Symbol Intro Loop.
Set up for teacher
Stop Visual Symbol Intro, turn on the lights. Tell students to pick one response to share.
For students
Each student will tape/write their response on the board/ wall where you have previously put a copy of each of the ten slides under the appropriate picture that matches their response.
For teacher
Have randomly selected students explain what they saw and how the symbol the drew communicated an idea with a drawing. ( a visual symbol)
