Part of Lesson Plan: Digital Story 2: Posing 4 The Green Screen
Activity Overview / Details
Set-up : Ask students previous to this lesson to bring in a camera (unless the class already has cameras for use)
Download and have videos ready to play, one of bad green screening (Video 1) and one of good green screening (Video 2). You may also set up the other videos that present lessons and minimize them on the screen so you can easily access them later.
You may also set up a small green screen area in your classroom (or, better yet, lecture from within a green screen room). This will require that you put up a green screen (a green, sturdy cloth background that is at least 7 feet tall and 7 feet wide would be great to start…but, any body length piece of green material can be used) and have some free standing lights ready (2 or 3 diffused lights would be idea here)
Video 1 – 3:11 minutes, Video 2 – 2:47 minutes
As the bell rings, ask students to watch the 2 videos in order and to write any comments about their quality. (At this time, take roll, etc., and walk around to ensure students are writing their comments.)
5 minutes
Teacher says: “Which video did you find had the better quality? With a show of hands, how many of you thought Video 1 was better? [Wait for show of hands] How many of you thought Video 2 was better? [Wait for show of hands] [Tally and summarize the results] [They should have seen that Video 2 was better]
Teacher says: “Now, why was Video 2 better?” [Allow students to volunteer some answers and share their comments.]
