Note: Make this a very short stop and check for
understanding.
Stop: Ask the following question:
What can happen to a taxpayer who does not follow the
system of voluntary compliance?
Correct Answer:
The IRS has the authority to take
actions to collect any unpaid taxes and assess penalties and
interest.
Note: You can put this on a projector
using a PowerPoint or other document, on an overhead projector,
write it on a whiteboard, or make it a verbal question. You
can request responses in a variety of ways, choosing the one you
use most often and with which the students are most familiar. This
is intended to be a short spot check for understanding.
