Identification of Table Appointments

Part of Lesson Plan: Table Setting and Service Etiquette

Activity Overview / Details

Students will be shown two different place settings: 1) Casual and 2) Formal. (Instructor may use actual table appointments or diagrams.) Students will be asked to explain situations when each type of table setting might be used.

Students will be asked to label the items using appropriate names:  tableware, glassware, flatware, and table linens. Under each category, students can list examples of each. (For example, examples of tableware would include plates, soup bowls, coffee cups.) Instructor will review correct organization with the students at the end of the activity.

Instructor can direct students to use classroom resources, textbooks, internet resources, etc. to find examples of different place setting situations.
