Part of Lesson Plan: The heart and the circulatory system
Activity Overview / Details
The teacher will start the lecture with two short videos showing the activity of the heart
After the view of the video the teacher will touch a few main points mentioned during class:
- the heart is a very unique muscle that has an electrical activity - that is the reason we can defibrillate the heart muscle
- arteries carry oxygenated blood away from the heart to every body cell
- veins carry unoxygenated blood from every body cell back to the heart
- there are two exceptions from the rule: pulmonary artery (is an artery but carries unoxygenated blood) and pulmonary vein (is a vein but carries oxygenated blood)
- the left side of the heart is rich in oxygen and the right side of the heart is oxygen depleted
NOTE:
There are two videos about the heart that teachers can use . One video is 3.30 minutes long and uses animation to show the anatomy of the heart. The other video is 6.55 minutes long and uses a heart model to demonstrate the anatomy of the heart. You can use either one of them or both.
