Part of Lesson Plan: Orientation
Activity Overview / Details
This a good time to introduce yourself to to the students and give a brief biography. Include not only qualifications, but also experience in the field, and interest or hobbies.
To draw the students in to a discussion I like to ask a few questions. These questions allow me to better understand the students perspective and to start guiding them towards the subjects that the class will cover. Here are a few questions I like to start with:
- What does firefighting mean to you?
- Do you have more interest in a wildland or an urban type fire department.
- How important is emergency medical services, hazardous material response, heavy rescue in the fire department?
Show the video New Fire Class. I like to tell the students this video was created by a senior in a Fire Technology ROP class. I think by seeing other students training and enjoying themselves as they pursue a career they can see that their own goals are very attainable.
