Depending on the school's camera check out policy an educator can check out cameras to students to practice on their own.

I encourage students to take all the equipment home and to practice the skills that were learned during the lessons.  Most do not, but many do take the cameras home.

It is also a great way to build trust with the students and your equipment.  I find it a powerful bridge building exercise.
