Analyzing a Movie Clip #3
Part of Lesson Plan: Tools of the Visual Storyteller
Activity Overview / Details
3. Discuss point of view.
Ask students to consider how the placement and angle of the
camera establishes
point of view within a scene. Ask:
• What different points of view did the camera
represent during the clip?
Possible answers: The point of view of an omniscient viewer;
the point of view of a main character; the point of view of
another character in the movie (shots that show the point of
view of characters are called POV shots)
• Why might a director use different points of view in
a movie or TV
show?
Possible answers: To draw in viewers by having them take on
the perspective of a character; to make the movie seem more
realistic; to provide a varied visual experience for viewers.
This discussion will sum up what the group has learned in the
activities previous.
