Weekly Critique Assignment

Part of Lesson Plan: Tools of the Visual Storyteller

Activity Overview / Details

In preparation for introducing this weekly "homework" assignment, prepare a list of links to online movie and TV clips  that students may view on their own for the weekly critique.  Use the resources in the attached document labeled " Tools and Resources".

1. Introduce the weekly critique assignment.

Distribute the handout: " Weekly Critique".
Explain that each week, students will analyze a 5–10-minute clip of a TV show or movie outside of class and write a critique, using the questions on the handout. After each critique, students should fill out the Student Comments portion of the Assessment Checklist.
Point out the kinds of clips recommended for critique on Handout 6. Encourage
students to watch an assortment of genres and styles of movies and TV shows
so that they are exposed to a wide variety of perspectives, approaches to
storytelling, and cinematography techniques.
The " Weekly Critque" worksheet pages 2 & 3 can be printed front to back and handed out so the students can hand write in the charts, or the documant can be emailed to the students to have them type directly into the charts, then print them out to hand in.

2.  Go over Assessment Rubric for the Weekly Critique (handout included in the resources for this lesson).  This is a summative assessment tool.
