Getting a Job is Work

No one said finding work was easy -- it takes work to find work! Students should understand the importance of putting in the time at the job search process. Encourage them to have their resume and reference names with them at all times so they can provide this information immediately upon request.

Their job hunt needs a strategy. Two very simple rules apply:

• Make a contact either by phone, in person or by mail
• Follow up with every contact either by phone, in person or by mail

If they divide their time between contacting potential employers and generating new leads, they can increase their personal networks.

Taking the proactive approach puts the job hunter in the driver's seat.
