This is an advanced level project and my students would have already learned how to calculate board feet and square feet, using their math skills or an online lumber calculator. In the interest of accuracy, I allow students to choose which method they will use. Most students use the online method.

Have the students calculate the board footage of each part of the cabinet assembly, except the back and the drawer fronts. They are to write in their answers onto the Materials/Cutting List Worksheet.

Total the board footage and  enter the total on the bottom of the worksheet.

Have students calculate the board footage of the drawer sides and backs. Total  the board footage and enter it onto the worksheet.

Have students calculate the square feet of wood for the drawer bottoms and cabinet back. Write their results onto the worksheet. Students should also total the square footage and enter it onto the bottom of the worksheet.
