If you haven't installed the Scratch and/or BYOB Scratch IDEs on the students' machines a link to the download website is included with this activity.

Before beginning this lesson, download the Scratch-Karel-3.0.zip file and unzip it into a folder of your choosing.  The Scratch-Karel-3.0.zip file consists of a main Sratch-Karel-3.0 folder with four imbedded folders; BYOB, Doc, Images and Scratch. 

The Doc folder has documentation on:

  1. Scratch implementation of Karel the Robot (Microsoft Word/Adobe Acrobat Document)
  2. BYOB Scratch implementation of Karel the Robot (Microsoft Word/Adobe Acrobat Document)
  3. Copyright information
  4. GNU General Public License Information

The Images folder has image files that will be used with the lesson.

The BYOB and Scratch folders have sample program files.  It is advisable that you read through the scratch-Karel-english file located in the doc folder before continuing with the lessons in this unit.

Install the Scratch IDE program on individual student machines. (If not already installed the IDE can be downloaded from http://scratch.mit.edu
