**Teacher note- I use my contacts through my advisory committee to find good event planners for the students to shadow.****** They may also find their own.

Today we are going to look at the career of being an event planner.  A student came to me yesterday and said "I've wanted to be a wedding planner since I was three until last year when I saw the movie Bride Wars and it changed my mind".  How many of you saw that movie?  Do you think that all clients are that difficult? Many young people look at event planning, especially wedding planners, as a "fun" career, but not much work.  I am a firm believer that you should love whatever career you choose because you'll be doing it for a long time.  We are going to look into the career of an event planner as well as a wedding planner to paint a clear pciture of what they do.  How many students think that event planning might be a career that you are interested in? Since this is our first job shadowing assignment I am going to go over the proper job shadowing techniques.  I have many contacts throughout the community and I have arranged about 12 different event planning positions for you to job shadow.  Each student is required to complete at least one, and may complete more on their own time for extra credit.

Remember, all contact you have with this company is giving them an impression of you, so make sure you follow through and call when you say you are and show up to any meetings, events or shadows on time.
