"Shop Card" and Student/Teacher Evaluation of Proficiency

Part of Lesson Plan: **Broken Bolt Extraction Methods Part 2 (updated) by Robert Thayer

Activity Overview / Details

Once the bolt is removed, ask the student or students what steps or techniques upon which they feel they could improve. If you and the student feel that they are proficient, punch their shop card next to where it says "Broken Bolt Extraction."

If they fail to remove the bolt, take an unacceptable amount of time to complete the task, violate any safety rules, or if their efforts result in any of the following:

  • An off-center hole
  • A crooked hole
  • A broken drill bit
  • A broken easy-out

...they should attempt to remove another broken bolt until proficiency is achieved. This could be done on another day that students have shop time.
