Part of Lesson Plan: **Engine Fundamentals (updated) by David Espinoza
Activity Overview / Details
I will give the students a Four Stroke worksheet to view as I cover a Power Point Presentation. Students will take notes during the presentation and I will answer questions about each component and their functions.
During this session I will utilize a cutaway engine to demonstrate the movement of the engine components, focusing on the crankshaft, pistons, and intake and exhaust valves. As the engine moves, I will explain the direction that the piston moves (up or down) and the opening and closing of the intake and exhaust valves during each stroke. I will utilize a video camera connected to the Smart Board so that all students can have an opportunity to view the engine components as it moves.
At this time I will have the students complete the Four Stroke worksheet. Students will be allowed to gather in groups of four and will be encouraged to utilize problem solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills.
