Standards

Content / Concepts

  • Learn to safely use portable and power saws (table, band, miter, radial-arm, jig, reciprocating, skilsaw, etc.)
  • Learn to safely use power shaping machines (shapers, routers, jointer, planer, lathe, sanders, etc.)
  • Learn to safely use hand tools
  • Learn to safely use boring power tools ( drill press, horizontal dilling machine, mortise attachments, line drills, etc.)
  • Learn to safely use pneumatic portable tools (framing nail gun, finish nail guns, brad nailers, staplers, and air nozzles)

Lessons in this Unit

  • This lesson introduces students to robotic control and computer aided manufacturing.  A CNC (computer numeric control) machine is a computer controlled lathe, router, plasma cutter or laser.

Students can observe a sign (the school mascot, perhaps) being carved into a sign blank.  One or more could be done in a few minutes and given as prizes in a drawing for correct answers in short summative assessment.

This is why SAFETY regarding this saw will play a huge role in this lesson. The students will learn how to safely use and care for this saw. The students will also learn about the history of the wormdrive and the direct drive portable circular saws.

Ram Set Safety - Safe work habits - Safety on the job!

How to use a Ram Set in a safe manner. Students first must be taught to develop a safe attitude .

Safe work habits can be taught. The number one cause of accidents on the job are unsafe acts. If you can teach the students to think safety, we can help them to develop into safe workers. Teach them to always keep themselves and the work area clean.

To use a Ram Set on the job you MUST be certified to use the device. The Company (RAM SET) will issue you a certificate of completion card certifying you are trained properly in the use of the Ram Set.
