Introduction

In this lesson the students will be led in a brainstorming/discovery session on the following principles of residential kitchen design: countertops & Back Splashes, Door and Drawer Front Styles and Kitchen Appliances. A powerpoint presentation on the most popular countertop materials will be presented along with a hand out for the students to complete during the presentation. The instructor should have as many material samples - as possible - available to show to the students during this presentation. Obtain them from local cabinet shops, your wood shop program, Home Depot, Lowes, (etc.). The students will be taken on a virtual tour of a large Cabinet Door and Drawer Front manufacturers web site to model possible choices for their "Architectural Kitchen Design Project."
