Fixed Pedestal and Dice - Lesson 3 of 4

by

Students will fit-up and tack parent materials, interpret welding symbols and weld the project utilizing one or multiple welding processes in preparation for for the next phase of the Fixed Pedestal and Dice Project.

Introduction

The following activities tie in to a project based lesson for Welding and Material Joining.

Items covered in this portion will be, bolt making, expectations, fitting, tacking, welding and weld imperfections.

For this portion of the project students should have a basic understanding of print/drawing interpretation, welding symbols and joints, fit-up techniques, and be proficient in one or more welding processes.

Note:

  • For this project, .250" material thickness is typical.
  • Material thicknesses and dimensions can vary depending on instructor and material availability. Most of the resources in this project will not reflect material thickness.

Instructor Note:

  • As welding goes, learning is often at an independent pace and often times the American Welding Society modular format is utilized. Overview found here: http://www.aws.org/education/Learning
  • It is suggested to use a hybrid of the American Welding Society modular format and small groups of 2-4 students engaging in this project at any one time, planning in advanced a schedule given the time elements for this project and the ability of your students.
