Help! I Can't Breath - The Effects of Smoking on Your Lungs (CTE)

by

In this lesson, students will identify the changes that take place in a lung that has experienced smoking. Students will also personally experience what limited lung capacity may feel like.

Introduction

This is lesson 1 in a series of 4 lessons about the long term effect of smoking Vapor cigarettes. This may be used as a stand-alone lesson to demonstrate the effects of smoking in general, the lifestyle limitations long term smoking may cause and the anatomy of the respiratory system.

If possible, teacher will do the live demonstration of a healthy pig lung breathing and a pig lung who is breathing as a smoker. Another option is to show the YouTube video link.

Students will experience what limited lung capacity may feel like. Students will evaluate their experience and share out.

At the end of this 4 lesson series, students will evaluate the long-term health consequences of using Vapor Cigarettes.
