Interior Design Styles



The purpose of this lesson is to familiarize students with various design styles and their features. Students will learn to recognize and identify these design styles. They will create a Design Styles Picture Portfolio of eleven design styles listing the identifiable features. ( Note: A group ppt assignment can be substituted for the picture portfolio.)

  • Familiarize students with key identifying principles & elements that typify a variety of design styles. (Balance, color, line, texture, finishes, etc.)
  • Identify the historical periods and cultural influences prevalent when those design styles grew in popularity.
  • To have the students reach a point that they can identify various design styles, naming them and their particular features, as well as the historical and cultural period in which they were most popular.
