Introduction to Soil Erosion

Students will hypothesize the effects of soil cover on soil erosion and conduct an experiment to measure the level of soil erosion in various cropping situations.

Introduction

This lesson is the first lesson in a series of four lessons centered around soil erosion. Students will begin this lesson by setting up the erosion lab and will make observations of the damage throughout the week.


Materials Needed:

  • Soil Erosion Lab Assignment Sheet (Copy for each student)
  • 12 Water Bottles
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Cardboard for base
  • String
  • 1/2 cup measuring cup
  • Soil
  • Soil with plants growing
  • Soil with vegetation
