Introduction to Web Design


In this lesson, students will be introduced to web design. They will learn the history of the World Wide Web, industry terminology as it relates to web design, and learn the meaning and use of basic HTML tags.


This is the first of four lessons. The lesson is very basic and easy to understand.

IMPORTANT NOTE: It is very important that the teacher has checked with the district IT team so that the students have permissions to download the HTML editors on the classroom computers.

What you need: (HTML editor that can be used on both PC's and Macs) installed on all computers. Or Notepad ++ can be used if there is an issue with Just go to the web and search in google for or Notepad++ and download the free version.

Teacher: In this lesson you will be expected to help the students download the HTML editor if they do not know how to perform this task. This should be done prior to lesson 4.

In this lesson students will learn:

  1. A brief history of the background of web design
  2. Basic terminology that is standard in the industry
  3. How to use an HTML editor (required to write the code that will be used to create the webpage). Note: If you are using a Mac, another tool to use is Notepad++ or TextEdit. This lesson will use for PC's.
