Lesson 3: Areas & Perimeter

Introduction

In this lesson, students will draw different quadrilaterals attached to one another. Students will label the lengths of sides of each quadrilateral. Students will also add interior angles. After students have finished drawing, they will copy each shape in their iBook (interactive notebook)* as a diagram including the side measurements. Students will then research the area and perimeter formulas for each shape. Using the measurements they have written in their iBook, students will show formal step-by-step calculation of each shapes area and perimeter.

*iBOOKS are just an ordinary graph/line notebook typically 140 sheets where students write their responses, do homework or class activities. Teacher may just use loose binder paper but there is merit in having all work written in a dedicated notebook exclusive for the class,
