Lesson 3: Assemblies in 3D Modeling

by

Introduction

In this lesson, students will be introduced to the concept of Assemblies in 3D Modeling. An instructional video is included in the resources to demonstrate how they can 'assemble' their puzzle pieces digitally, in order to be certain that their puzzle will actually fit together before they output their drawings to a 3D Printer. The students will again have guided practice lab session using the 3D modleing software to create these assemblies.

Related Instructional Objectives (SWBAT...)

  • Students will learn to make an 3D assembly of their puzzle pieces in 3D modeling software. In this example AUTODESK INVENTOR is used.
  • Students will learn to open an assembly drawing, draw parts in the assembly environment, and use: mate, angle, tangent, and insert constraints to assemble their puzzle pieces.
