adapted from work by Dawna Hughes

Introduction

Disasters are caused by a force of nature or man-made threat that collides with humanity and the results are usually traumatic. These diseasters, emergencies, and threats result in bodily injuries, large death tolls and cause paralyzing economic damages. It is important that healthcare workers understand and use vocabulary and the medical terms related to emergencies, disasters and threats during these types of disaster situations.
