Post-Production: Sound Effects and Foley, Making the Story Real (CTE)

Students will add sound effects and foley to a spoken story and instrumental music tracks ignored to make the story come to life.

Introduction

This is the final lesson in a four lesson unit: Hear Me: Stories We need to Tell! This unit was designed to integrate Music, English, and Special Education. Each lesson can be used alone or with the entire unit with. Additionally, this unit can work without collaboration from other subjects.

In this lesson, students will, learn about how to create and record foley sound. Therefore, students need to have the ability to record foley as professionally as possible. Students should have access to microphones, recording interface, and computers with recording software. Students will add self created sound effects as well as effects from sound libraries to spoken stories. Next, students will mix, master, and upload their projects. Finally students will share playlists with the class and will analyze and respond to their peers playlists.

Prior to beginning this unit, students should have learned how to record edit, mix, master and upload projects. This lesson can take place any time in the year after students have learned these skills. Students will need to create a SoundCloud account, which is used for sharing projects and playlists.
